Artist's Comments

Tragedia is the Spanish word for "tragedy" - but I'm sure you all guess... I wanted to call it Tragedia instead of the French "Tragédie", because devianntArt doesn't allow us to use stresses in titles, and because Tragedia looks nice (et surtout, essayez de taper "Tragédie" sur Google Images, et vous verrez sur quoi vous tomberez...)

For this self-portrait, I was inspired by Melpomene, the Greek Muse of Tragedy. I retouched contrasts and density a bit; because of the flash, the mask were too "white", it was horrible. I also made my hair a bit darker, my eyes deeper, and then turned everything in black&white, for it fits with this tragic meaning, this tragic atmosphere, where there is no happy ending.

And above all, I wanted to make a very classy portrait, a little like these old portraits which were taken.

Of course the mask I'm holding isn't a tragedy mask at all... I just can't afford (and find) one.
